Is a child running your office?

June 14, 2023

No, not the three-year-old that you or a teammate may have running around at home. I'm talking about YOU. Are you the child who is trying to lead your team while climbing the career ladder?

Keep reading to find out...

You might feel like you're doing everything you can to be a good team member and leader until you start to notice things that don't seem quite right.

This team doesn't get along with that team. Or this team is consistently missing deadlines, and even though you have addressed it, the delinquency persists. Or the new hire you just brought in doesn't seem to be a team player.

When you stop and process through these dynamics, it might hit you like a truck. "I'm managing a bunch of children!"

And here is the moment that could make or break you as a leader. When faced with what you now perceive as an office full of children, do you play into their game and begin to "parent"? Or perhaps you become a child as well? I've seen both happen plenty of times!

This isn't a new idea. It's something I talk about extensively in my book, Think About Your Thinking. Have you read it yet? If you haven’t already, keep reading to see how you can get your copy of this short ebook (can be read in 40 minutes) and begin to bring the adult back into the conversation.

I was watching TV last night--one of those political dramas--and the fictitious president gave some really simple leadership advice. He said, "Finding your voice as a leader is never easy but it's pretty much the whole gig."
